Radiant Defense, why does that deserve "App of the Week" ?

Well I must admit that I have a thing for Tower Defense, and this game takes Tower defense to a Whole new level.  This game is capable to get you addicted, if you're into the TD genre. But be aware, this game will also pis you off, because it's NOT easy, and the difficulty of the game makes it a Winner in my opinion.

I've played Angry Birds, and I was able to complete them within short time, where this game takes some time and skill.

Another bonus to take in consideration, the game is FREE. Thou bare in mind, that there are some helping packages which is highly tempting to buy at some points (I've for one fallen towards the explosive pack)

I've completed Level 1, so you are able to see the game in action. ( BARE in mind - the first 4 level's are easy)

The W510 is maxed to 32gb microSD accordingly to the manual, but is that true?

I ordered an SanDisk Mobile Ultra - 64gb microSDXC UHS-I (SDSDQUA-064G-U46A)

I payed 383DKKR for the Card, which is equivalent to:
66,66$ or 51,38€

Transfer speeds up to 30 MB/s

Highest video recording performance with Class 10

UHS Speed Class 1 (U1) rating

64Gb capacity.

And the reason why you're reading this blog, did it Work?

YES IT DID! .
Bare in mind that 64gb is really 59,4gb.

 

So how are the read/write speeds?

Let's take a look:

So the Card promises up to 30 mb/s, it barely reaches that in reading speed, and 1/3 in writing speed.

But how are the speeds compared towards the MMC SSD in the tablet?

The read speed is fast enough for this setup, since you won't run too heavy programs on this hybrid.



To conclusion, the 64gb SDXC drive is a MUST for this tablet.

The Price for SD Cards have become so low, that everyone can afford it.

Especially because the main drive will become full FAST, remember the OS is 20gb.

As you can see in the previous post I made on this blog, I did a test on the Picture quality of the camera.
Now it's time to take a look at the video quality.

The camera is a 8 mega-pixel back-facing camera, and it's able to shoot 1080p in 30fps.

Here's some examples in different lighting modes.



As you can see in the movie, the camera does well in different lightings, considering the price of the tablet. Overall the quality is better than what I expected.

The Acer Iconia W510 is fitted with an 8 mega-pixel back-facing camera.
I took some pictures in different lightings just to show the quality you might expect from it.

The camera is as good as the average mobile camera at 8 mega-pixel, maybe a bit better.
Thou as you can see in the Pictures below, the saturation and White balance varies from where your focus is.

Here does the camera focus on the sky, and the White balance is reduced.

So all in all, the camera is descent considering the price of the tablet.

So after using the Acer Iconia W510 for a few weeks, what is my first impression of it?

I've listed some main points, which are the first to "pop" into my head:

 

 

CON:

• Look's like aluminium, thou it is only painted plastic.
• Might be a bit heavy.
• Get's hot under the "NFC" sticker.
• Reaches 80 degree Celsius at 70% cpu usage
• No additional SD card-slot in the keyboard (would be a sweet feature)
• The keyboard (SOMETIMES) don't respond that well. (Missing letters)
• No usb 3.0 (Don't know if it's possible with this architecture ?)
• The wifi could be better signal wise, but it's acceptable considering the size 

PRO:

• The cheapest Windows 8 tablet/hybrid on the market.
• Supports up to 64gb microSDXC
• 300 nits bright display
• The touch is EXTREMELY responsive
• Have a touch "Home-button"
• 18 hours of battery-life
• Handles large playback files well (1080p 7,8gb with no lag)
• Great as a "app gaming platform" - Spent many hours playing radiant defence

 

So who should consider buying this hybrid?

• Students on a tight budget, who also want a tablet
• People who's  "on the go" and need portability.
